Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of misleading farmers over the India-US trade arrangement and related agricultural concerns. Addressing a public gathering in Gujarat, Shah asserted that the government protected the interests of farmers in both the US and EU trade agreements.
Shah said the Congress leadership was spreading falsehoods and challenged Gandhi to a public debate on the issue. He claimed the present government procured significantly more grain at minimum support price compared to the previous regime and expanded financial support to farmers through direct benefit transfers.
The remarks came amid escalating political confrontation after Gandhi alleged the trade deal could harm Indian agriculture by enabling foreign agricultural products to gain long-term entry into domestic markets and potentially weaken procurement protections.
During the event, Shah also highlighted a central bank digital currency-based public distribution system, describing it as a transparent and leak-proof ration delivery model that would be expanded nationwide in the coming years.
